Bempton Snooker Club Honors Richard Leeson with Memorial Cup; Jordan Sykes Seals 'Bempton Double'

On the 5th of January, Bempton Snooker Club hosted the first, annual Richard Leeson Memorial Cup, a tournament dedicated to honouring the memory of the club's former chairman, Richard Leeson, who was a revered servant of the club. With a total of 17 members participating, the atmosphere was filled with a mix of competition and heartfelt remembrance.

The final of the tournament featured Lee Crossland and Jordan Sykes, two players who had navigated their way through the earlier rounds to reach this pivotal moment. Both players demonstrated exceptional snooker skills and a deep appreciation for the significance of the occasion.

In a fitting tribute to the late chairman, Jordan Sykes secured victory in the final, completing what would be known as the 'Bempton Double'—a consecutive win following his triumph in the Christmas Handicap. Sykes displayed a remarkable level of focus and skill throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard fought win against Crossland in the final frame.

The significance of the moment was heightened by the presence of Kath Leeson, Richard's wife, who was welcomed by the club to present the trophy. The gesture added a poignant touch to the event, emphasizing the sense of community and remembrance that the Richard Leeson Memorial Cup embodies.

As the trophy was handed over to Jordan Sykes, the club collectively acknowledged not only the winner's achievement but also the enduring legacy of Richard Leeson within Bempton Snooker Club. The tournament serves as an annual reminder of the contributions and spirit of a beloved figure, fostering a sense of unity among the club members.

Bempton Snooker Club expressed gratitude to Kath Leeson for gracing the event and being a part of the presentation ceremony. The Richard Leeson Memorial Cup will become a cherished tradition, blending competition with heartfelt remembrance, ensuring that the legacy of the club's former chairman lives on through the spirit of the game he loved.
